Duplicating a step, then changing selector of step updates selector for both steps

I am attempting to duplicate a step (click) after making an automation and then changing the step type. I am doing this as this is the only way to avoid having to open the recorder. I then go to the new step and update the selector manually to my desired xpath. Unfortunately doing so updates that step AND the step I had duplicated which was never expected or desired. Bug.
